It’s been a few days since the memorial service for late South African president Nelson Mandela took place, yet I’m still unsure of what all happened. But at this hour, here’s what we’re able to report: a selfie was taken, First Lady Michelle Obama was miffed, and a fake sign language interpreter was making unintelligible motions while reportedly suffering a schizophrenic break.
This trip turned out to be anything but a normal state visit for the Obamas. Instead, what happened to President Obama in South Africa would turn into punny magazine cover material, a massive security fumble, and a twitter uproar.
The first problem to be reported out of the event was a selfie taken with President Obama, UK Prime Minister David Cameron, and Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt.
The now-infamous “funeral selfie” shows First Lady Michelle Obama quite unamused with the President’s joking.
