A few weeks ago I wrote about how surprised I was that some GOP Reps. were facing such staunch anti-Trump fervor when they were just reelected by large margins.
Rep. Tom McClintock (R-CA) was reelected with 63% of the vote in his district, but you never would have guessed it if you would have been at a recent town hall where police had to escort him from the premises.
Rep. Justin Amash (R-MI) was reelected with 60% of the vote in his district, but at a recent town hall in Grand Rapids, Michigan you would have thought that no one in his community had voted for him.
There are many other examples of the ridiculous rise of liberal complainers. Folks who are so incensed at losing (even when the winner got more than 60% of the vote) that they simply have to complain about everything, but I’ll just share one more…
In Florida, Rep. Gus Bilirakis (R-FL) won his district with 69% of the vote. 69%! And yet, when he held a town hall in New Port Richey, Florida you would have though that the man would soon be looking for other work. The venue was filled with liberal Democrats screaming and complaining about the GOP majority doing things that Republicans elected them to do.
All across America, Republican representatives (and Democrats too – but the animosity towards liberal representatives is less surprising given Trump and the GOP’s recent victory) have faced surprisingly raucous crowds. Why would the voters who had just elected these Republicans be upset when the Republicans began pursuing the agenda that they were elected to pursue? Some in the GOP wondered if these were “astroturfed” meetings and if they’d been set up by liberal organizations and were actually facing contrived opposition.
The media quickly decried such thoughts as “conspiracy theories” but recently discovered undercover audio seems to prove some of the GOP consternation correct.
Senator Bill Cassidy (R-LA) defeated an unpopular incumbent, Mary Landrieu (D-LA) by a comfortable margin in 2014. (He won 56% of the final vote.) Yet at a recent town hall he was inundated by attacks from a mostly oppositional crowd, which was odd considering that Cassidy carried this particular Parrish by more than 5% in 2014. If something seems amiss, it’s because it was… and the undercover audio proves that liberals had “astroturfed” the town hall and pushed out the good people of Breaux Bridge, Louisiana in an effort to make Cassidy look bad.
