Trump Signs Order Supporting African American Institutions


On Tuesday, President Trump signed an executive order to bolster government support for historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs).

Trump’s executive order aims to moves White House Initiative on HBCUs from the U.S. Department of Education back to the White House, where it will function under the supervision of a presidentially-appointed executive director, reports Reuters.

A White House official told reporters the order will allow these institutions “to serve as a strategic partner to the president’s urban agenda of creating jobs and making inner cities safe again.”

Tuesday the president pledged to “create a better future for African Americans.”  Trump spoke about the importance of education and how it has the “power to uplift, the power to transform, and the power to create greater equality and justice in our lives.”
