Last week, we learned that Senator Lindsey Graham has a serious challenger for his once all- too-cozy Senate seat. And this challenger is NO ordinary Republican candidate.
In fact, Nancy Mace has been known to break some incredible hard-core barriers– including being the very first female graduate of The Citadel, the (once all-male) Military College of South Carolina (in 1999). If you have followed the story during Mace’s attendance at The Citadel, you understand what a HUGE accomplishment this truly is.
Mace has also earned master’s degree in mass communication from the University of Georgia, and she now currently owns and operates a public relations firm.
On August 3, 2013, in Goose Creek, S.C., Mace announced her candidacy for the U.S. Senate. In her announcement, she stated:
“I grew up during the Reagan years. I believe our fortieth president understood what being an American was all about. He was proud, resolute, and he was an eternal optimist. Our friends knew he would be steadfast and our enemies respected him. President Reagan helped regain our national pride, but he also left us with a powerful warning. He said, ’Freedom is never more than a generation away from extinction.’ He said ‘we must fight for it, protect it, and defend it.’ I think those words ring true now more than ever.”
Mace also explained at a Berkley County GOP Breakfast:
“I believe this government is out of touch. Washington thinks it knows better than the people. The federal government has worked its way into nearly every corner of our lives, trying to solve every problem for us. And yet, we are still not better off for it.
Running for political office was not my focus growing up. However, in the last decade or so, our government has taken a significant turn for the worse. Americans are waking up to the fact that our freedoms are being threatened. There are powerful forces in Washington that consider individual liberty passé and the Constitution dead letter. I believe our state desperately needs new leadership—someone who truly understands the challenges before us and what’s at stake and is willing to fight for the principles that make America great.”
