With the advent of the affordable 3D printer and the PC connected milling machine, I recall the movie Jurassic Park. In that movie Dr. Ian Malcolm, played by Jeff Goldblum, made an observation when Jurassic Park’s Creator, John Hammond, was explaining the measures they put in place to control the dinosaurs. In particular, by making all the animals female they removed the ability for reproduction that wasn’t monitored and registered by the facility.
To which Malcolm responded with:
John, the kind of control you’re attempting simply is… it’s not possible. If there is one thing the history of evolution has taught us it’s that life will not be contained. Life breaks free, it expands to new territories and crashes through barriers, painfully, maybe even dangerously, but, uh… well, there it is.
