Martin Sheen never served as president of the United States, but he played one on TV. In his latest role, he comes back all goggle-eyed and self-righteous with a lecture to the electors who will cast their Electoral College ballots next Monday.
Actually, the message is directed exclusively at Republican electors, since Sheen is evidently confident that his fellow Democrats will do the right thing.
The PSA, which features other Hollywood types, was sponsored by Unite For America, which describes itself as “a multi-partisan movement of concerned citizens and volunteers, united against the unprecedented threat of an unqualified candidate taking our nation’s highest office.” [Emphasis in the original]
The mission statement goes on to aver that UFA is also “grassroots” (natch) and that it was “formed in the wake of the 2016 Presidential Crisis.”
I must confess to being a little confused by the “presidential crisis” part. If memory serves, that crisis occurred in 2008, and the guy responsible for it, not to mention eights years of economic stagnation, will be out of office in a few weeks.
