Can Rand Paul Take California?

Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky has talked repeatedly about how the Republican Party needs to build new coalitions. Here, he unloads on the NSA/CIA surveillance of elected officials and private citizens. Paul was treated to enthusiastic reception at the University of Berkeley. The same electorate that tends to embrace right-leaning ballot questions might be ready for a candidate like Paul who understands that GOP has a brand name problem. But has the better ideas.

Cheered by a youthful audience in one of the country’s most liberal enclaves, Sen. Rand Paul – one of the Republican Party‘s leading contenders for the White House in 2016 – delivered a scathing rebuke to the U.S. intelligence community Wednesday, calling it “drunk with power.”
