Boot Camp Graduate Reminds Us to Appreciate America the Free

Do we realize what we have here? Our Country? America?

I got more than a little watery eyed looking at the pictures of my nephew’s graduation from Marine Boot Camp. It’s not that I expect this to have the same effect on everyone, it did, however, get me thinking.

What a Country!

We sailed in boats across a vast ocean. An ocean that is no longer vast because of the Wright Brothers. We froze to death, starved to death and died of horrible disease and malnutrition. Finally Jamestown was founded and less than 170 years later the Marines were founded and were fighting for our complete Independence from tyranny imposed by the king of England!

England had at first been glad to be rid of the rabble rousing separatist. So when real freedom began showing what free men can accomplish, the King couldn’t let England be left out.

Freedom was a new concept to all around the globe, the fact that the people could choose their government was appealing to all men. Through all the impossibilities, America emerged as the true bastion of Freedom for All. Always progressing, but never progressive. True freedom gave us the Ford, the light bulb, a phone. To keep freedom free, God seemed fit to bless us with Albert Einstein, the pot belly stove by Ben Franklin. This not only helped keep us from freezing, but kept women who were cooking in their huge dresses from going up in flames. Franklin gave us the modern concept of Hospitals.
