The Washington Post stirred up a firestorm when they put out a story Wednesday stating that Attorney General Jeff Sessions spoke with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak twice last year.
During his confirmation hearings for the position of attorney general, Session testified under oath that he “did not have communications with the Russians.”
Sessions’ spokeswoman, Sara Isgur Flores has confirmed there were two informal incidents last year during Sessions’ capacity as a Republican senator and a member of the Armed Services Committee — not on behalf of the Trump campaign.
At the Republican National Convention in July, Sessions attended a Heritage Foundation event where about 50 ambassadors were in attendance. Kislyak was among a small group of ambassadors who came up to Sessions and spoke with him, informally.
Again, in September, Kislyak reportedly spoke on the phone with Sessions.
